Why Choose JN Bentley Construction Careers?

We directly employ a large construction workforce; it's one of the things that really sets us apart.

Our construction workforce covers the whole of the UK and numbers more than 700 employees – a number we are looking to grow. We are dedicated to providing training and development opportunities, all of which makes for maximum career progression at a pace that suits you.

Direct, permanent employment means we deliver the highest standards, be it quality, health and safety or environmental protection. It also means our investment in you is in place from day one; be it training and development or the generous benefits package.

Roles span a variety of trades and use structured programmes to enable you to expand your skill set and advance in your profession.

We place value on the job security that direct employment affords and because a large proportion of our work involves delivering projects that are part of five-year water sector contracts, it means we can forecast and forward plan our workload.

Why Choose JN Bentley Construction Apprenticeships?

Joining the JN Bentley on a Level 2 Groundworker apprenticeship is a great starting place to build your career in the construction industry. The apprenticeship will give you a solid understanding of construction operations and give you the practical skills to be able to carry out a variety of construction-based tasks, working on a live construction site.

As a general operative (also called a groundworker) you’ll work as part of a team carrying out construction-based tasks, making sure these are completed safely, on time and to a high quality. This might include things like setting-up and maintaining a clean and tidy site, groundworking, formworking, steel fixing, steel piling, concreting and road working.

Kicking off your career with an apprenticeship opens up lots of opportunities for future progression and development. When you complete your Level 2 qualification you’ll be a skilled general construction operative and, as you develop your skills, there’s the chance to take on greater responsibility or even lead your own site team.

I joined JN Bentley because of the friendly working environment and reading and hearing about their personal progression for each individual. I’ve always been a character that likes to learn and constantly build and progress myself, so this highly appealed to me. I love that the variety of jobs you do on site – no week is the same, it keeps it fresh and enjoyable.

Holly, Operative

Since joining Bentleys my experience has been positive throughout. I would recommend this firm to anyone looking for a career in construction and civil engineering. Bentleys offer a wide range of career opportunities with competitive salary’s.

Zane, Tradesperson

I chose JN Bentley because of the amount of work that is local to me in the North East. JN Bentley is a leading company working in the water industry and I am currently working on Northumbrian Water sites. It's a really good place to work and the company really does care about you.

Joe, Lead Hand

After 14 years with JN Bentley, there is still job security; the work hasn’t slowed down, it’s actually growing.

John, Foreman

Sustainable work with a great team. The focus on safety is second to none, if it’s not safe – we won’t do it.

Thomas, Skilled Operative

The quality of the work is most important – do it right and safely.

Andy, Skilled Operative

“I am a returner to JN Bentley – after leaving I realised the grass wasn’t greener and JN Bentley’s commitment to health and safety is second to none. My voice is recognised when I ask a question and it’s answered quickly. I feel looked after and well taken care of.

Wes, Plant Operative
